Mint Health is growing, and we wanted to share our exciting news with you!!
This week we welcome our newest health coach, Chenoa Farrell, to our team!
At Mint Health, we see so many of you benefit from working with us on the Functional Medicine side of the practice, and so we want to make sure there is plenty of us to go around! For many of you, you had reached a dead-end with conventional medicine, or the remaining treatments offered would leave little to no improvement in overall health or quality of life. For some people, taking a functional medicine approach to healing is a leap-of-faith; for others, this type of healing is as much a truth for them as it is for us.
All that we employ in your healing journey with us is rooted in science (and we believe it is some of the latest and greatest science!), and we use this information to address the underlying cause(s) of your health issues.
Chenoa is a graduate from the Institute of Integrative Nutrition (IIN) as well as a soon to be graduate of the Kresser Institute of Functional Medicine. She brings with her many years of experience coaching families, with a special focus on moms. She loves watching the positive impact on the whole family, because as a mother learns to develop a state of better health, this has a ripple effect with the rest of the family.
**That being said, we DO SEE dads doing this same thing; it is not always the mom who is the initiator of healthier changes at home. 😉
Chenoa, being the mother to a teenager that often resists healthy habits around food, knows all too well the challenges mothers and fathers face in a world that can offer so many unhealthy food and lifestyle options.
Chenoa would like to share a little about her evolving health journey with you all.
Chenoa aka Feel Good Mama
As a teenager and young adult, I suffered from depression, anxiety, heavy menses with severe cramping, and mood disorders, never realizing how important nutrition was to my health. I had grown accustomed to this and just accepted it as “normal” figuring “happy” was simply not available to me, and that I was just a “difficult” person like my family told me.
It wasn’t until I was 30 years old, preparing to have my daughter, that something my midwife asked of me, began to open my eyes to another side of my health. She asked me to begin writing a food diary and to contemplate my relationship between food and health. This was an Aha moment for me. Appalled by how I was feeding myself AND my unborn baby, I made drastic changes to my diet. My depression and anxiety lessened, and I wasn’t anemic for the first time in my life!
Six years after the birth of my daughter, I found myself divorced, a single mother working a stressful job, eating horribly again, and hospitalized for pancreatitis due to a gallstone attack. I had allowed my stressful situation to affect my food choices again. This near-death experience from pancreatitis made me vow to find real-deal answers to climb out of this hole and whole! I found these answers with my IIN training and health coaching. I turned my health around again…well…or so I thought…until I started struggling with fatigue and irritability again 2 years ago, and was diagnosed with an auto-immune condition called Hashimoto’s Disease. This is when I met Renee and my foray into Functional Medicine began.
I am still battling the diagnosis of Hashimoto’s and realize I must adhere to a more stringent approach to reverse this state. The Kresser Institute has educated me in Functional Medicine, and I am learning about all of the benefits one garners when we understand our deficiencies and work to address these with proper supplementation, diet, and stress-resilience techniques. I am so grateful to have Functional Medicine on my side instead of over medicating for my various issues. I am feeling better and better every day and welcome any questions you may have about my approach to this “not so great” diagnosis.
My journey towards ultimate health and happiness will always be to use Food as Medicine, to find Joy and Gratitude daily, to Love with Abandon, and to implement Functional Medicine healing protocols! I am so excited to be part of the Mint Health team spreading the good word of Functional Medicine to bring hope and healing in this challenging, beautiful world. I am looking forward to meeting and supporting you on your wellness journey too!!!
At Mint Health
we know additional support is often needed to gain insight into behaviors and to make long-term, sustainable lifestyle changes so that recovered health can be long lasting and not just a phase. This additional support is a big reason why we employ health coaches! We want to ensure your success not just now, but long term!! When you have the support of a wellness team that includes health coaches, you are much more likely to take action with the advice of your healthcare provider to achieve your wellness goals. AtMint Health
, we will always go the extra mile to partner with you to achieve your best health possible! We want you to dig deep into your root causes, remove habits that are detrimental to your health, and create new habits that nourish your body and mind. We will guide you through this process with all the support you need for as long as it takes!!
Taking a functional medicine approach means we will use a systematic method to peel away the layers of what is going on with you so that your health issues can get better and so that you and your family can have a healthier and happier life.
For those of you that haven’t already started working with us in the Functional Medicine part of Mint Health
