Dr. Buchert and her family

We all have those experiences in life that divert us from the main freeway we’ve been traveling on, and shoot us off down that less traveled, but profoundly beautiful, against-the-grain path.

I started my journey as a physician with a medical school entry essay defining my commitment to a holistic-lifestyle-wellness focus to care, and a dedication to stand up for the health of women, children, families, all of us.

Then happened 8 years of conventional medical school and residency training that taught me to diagnose a singular problem, prescribe a pharmaceutical, do a surgical procedure – sort of the antithesis of holistic care and putting people on a new health trajectory for life.  How easily I was sucked into that health insurance industry, medical system industry, pharmaceutical industry driven way of functioning!

Then came my own personal journey of infertility, fertility treatments, pregnancy losses, adoption, birth, and bewonderment at my children and role as a mother in shaping their lives forever . . .

Then came my realization that 1 out of 2 kids today lives with a chronic condition, like autism, ADHD, allergies, obesity, and more; my disbelief at the fact that most adults in our country end up generally sick, on lots of meds (10-15 by retirement age), obese, and generally depressed; my concern that even young adults are increasingly inflicted with infertility, pregnancy complications, hormone problems, metabolic problems, mood problems, autoimmune problems, even cancer . . . .

Then came the overwhelmed feeling of WHAT THE HECK AM I DOING AS A PHYSICIAN ANYWAY!! I was doing nothing to change this situation.  And with my conventional medical training I didn’t know how.

Thankfully, I discovered the Institute for Functional Medicine!

In this day and age of amazing technology and abundance, Americans are getting sicker and sicker, young and old alike.  Our conventional system is not effective at addressing this trajectory toward disease. With expensive medical systems, health insurance systems, food systems, and pharmaceutical systems primarily driven by corporate interests, people are left increasingly unwell and un-vibrant, without the right information on how to get better!

To help others find a new path to wellness (as well as for myself and my own family-to prevent those scary statistics for us!), I started Mint Health and put the systems of the Functional Medicine approach in place.   In part of our practice we offer Functional Wellness programs and memberships so our patients can fully engage in this progressive model of care.  In part of our practice, we continue to offer conventional OB/GYN services, because I love working with women and know my knowledge of Functional Medicine helps me give better solutions.

We all have the ability to choose a better path and invest in our health, our family’s health, and the health of future generations. Don’t wait until it’s too late to make a change!  Remember: “If not me, who?  If not now, when?”  We truly look forward to getting to know you and your family, and having you as part of our Mint Health community!

Sincerely, Dr. Buchert
